The National Institute of Social Sciences has partnered with the American Historical Association to support graduate students attending the AHA’s annual meetings, which take place each January.
The first grants will be awarded to support students at the AHA’s 2020 annual meeting, which will be held in New York City from January 3-6.
The AHA’s annual meeting is North America’s largest gathering of historians—professors, undergraduate and graduate students, and independent scholars—from across the discipline. Graduate students who attend the annual meeting can build their professional networks, enhance their teaching skills, learn about the latest research, and participate in discussions about issues affecting the discipline.
The “National Institute of Social Sciences Annual Meeting Travel Grants” will help graduate students defray the costs of attending the annual meeting. Graduate students in any major or minor field of history are eligible to apply. Students apply to the AHA for this funding. The AHA selects the grantees, who receive awards of as much as $400 each. Preference is given to graduate students who are delivering papers or making presentations at the annual meeting.
The AHA and the National Institute anticipate awarding at least two National Institute of Social Sciences Travel Grants per year.
